I am so excited to tell you guys that last week, I finally being able to visit Bali again after leaving that beautiful island for six months!! It was a short visit only for a week, not a long stay like I did previously. It felt so good when I touched down the city. I even could hear my heart beating fast, didn’t know why but I was so excited!
During the first days of the week, I backed staying at new refurbished hotel in Kuta which I happened to know before leaving Bali. Yan’s House Hotel Bali is that comfortable and enjoyable for me to walk-back for this second visit. Yep, I’ve stayed at this blue Victorian house once last year and everything was satisfying thus convince me to pay another visit. But I wonder after awhile, will there something changed?
Even though it’s already my countless time to see Yan’s from outside the building, it’s eye catching soft blue exterior designed in European wooden house style is still attract me a lot. It somehow always bring me travel-back my path to see these kind of beautiful houses in Norway!
My Countryside Thematic Room, Homeland.
There are total 11 thematic room at the house and this time I chose to stay at Homeland Room. I didn’t get the explanation of theme they try to lift for the room but defining it myself; greeny grass floor, wooden furnitures, and vintage lamps — I would say it pretty much resembling a countryside ambiance!Would you think so?
Cleanliness was excellent, complete toiletries was all given, and the noise was totally quite — it was perfect just like how an introvert like me all wished for.
Even though the hotel was not that big, I still could enjoyed the view outside the window from my room. Guess what, I even could take a great shoot!
No more cold, un-fresh, and left-over hotel breakfast!
Moving to my most favorite part of this hotel overall! FOOD. To be honest, even though I’ve stayed at Yan’s before, however I didn’t got a chance to try their breakfast since I got to check out in a hurry previously. All I know was, they didn’t served a buffet breakfast just like usual hotel did. Instead, they created a list of simple menu and later guess could pick which dish they like the most. Just like how we dine out in restaurant, particularly.
I didn’t really care about it before and slightly ever wonder why they took such of this unusual breakfast style. But after I experienced it by myself, I got to understand the reasons behind and how it could left the guess truly enjoyed the breakfast.
I personally thought it was a good move since they put on the concern of everyone’s palate and personalized the breakfast based on each of individual’s taste. Besides, there are no more cold, un-fresh, and left-over breakfast even if you woke up a bit late! And vice versa, there are no more waking up early in the morning just to queue for a proper breakfast. Yass! This is the point!
Over a year, I noticed that choices of menu list in Yan’s breakfast also getting more diversificated. I remember last year I didn’t got much choices but this time it took me some minutes to decide what to eat!
When the food arrived on my table, again another suprised I got… it didn’t only look delicious and appetizing, but it also looked so beautiful with a fine dining typically plating. Salute to the Chef!
Code Grafiti Restaurant: Casual-Fine Dining Restaurant
Impressed with the breakfast, I jumped for a dinner in Grafiti Code Restaurant located in the main enterance of the hotel. The restaurant ambiance to be honest at glance won’t tell that they serve a fine dining but suprise suprise, they did! Maybe because the atmosphere was a bit casual compared to formal fine dining restaurant in common. But it’s reliefing to know that I could wear something comfortable *read:jeans-and-tshirt* and don’t have to spend an hour for makeup to enjoy a fine dining.
I heard that the Chef of the restaurant, namely Chef Bondan Yuliarso has more than 20 years of experience in professional kitchen. More intrestingly, since it’s a fine dining, the restaurant only have 15 menus but guess what? All of them took the Chef half a year to finalized the creations because he created the menu passionately with a focus on every details based on philosophy and culinary traditions.
Each of the dish have a story behind, such as one of their menu called Obat Nyamuk meaning mosquito coil. The creation of this appetizer was based on the old traditions of every restaurant in Bali around 15 years ago whose always burned this coil under the tables to swipe away mosquitos. And now they made an edible version resembling the spiral shaped consist of black rice, red chilli, squid ink, lime leaf, onion, and cumin and served it on the table. Wonder how it taste?
During the dine, I got a privallge to try out their new set menu special for Valentine as well!
Started with Crab Meet Zucchini Pure for appetizer, the dish was compleated with almond and frise then served with lobster bisque and butter on top. Taste is unique, a bit salty but then sweet and nutty. The umami taste of lobster bisque was heavenly good.
For main, I had Beef Cube Roll – beef juu, infused with sage, tamarind pure, and miso paste. The ingredients of the dish is quite unique. Instead of using baked potato it use baked beet root as staple. Honestly, I’m not a fan of beetroot because its raw taste is hard to eliminate in whatever the cooking method is but here I could ate their baked beetroot since it tasted less tangy.
Dessert was the highlighted part overall! I had Coconut Mousse in Chocolate Shell completed with salak pure, tarragon sauce, and salted caramel sauce. Chef Bondan assist to deliver their dessert by his-own and did the plating in front of you in your table!! Best part was at the end when he finished plating on the sauces and suddenly dropped the Chocolate Shell from the top! Bum!! The shell broke down to pieces in the plate but still the abstract presentation was nice!
I personally think, Yan’s House Hotel Bali is very suitable for those traveller who come with couple, family, and even friends. It also strategically located 3km near airport and couple steps to Discovery Mall. If you planned to stay in Kuta, this hotel absolutely should be put on your choices list.
