Young and dynamic are the best two words to describe J4 Hotel Legian, Bali. This hotel was the most crowded hotel I visited during my exploration in Kuta. Location is definitely the main reason why this four star hotel gained so much guests everyday. Located strategically at the heart of Legian street, even closer to the night clubs. Other reason maybe because it’s affordable price that fit the traveler’s budget. No wonder, I meet so much young tourists from aboard as well as domestic guests at the hotel.
I’m going to give you a closer look so hang in there and keep reading! 🙂
LOBBY: WHAT’S in there?
From the outside, J4 Hotel Legian looked a bit small. I didn’t take any pics of it but you’ll think the same way as you see the front. After I get into the lobby, I noticed that they have a long building to the back, 5 floors up, and could accommodate for total 200 rooms. That’s quite huge. The lobby was not that big but fulfill all necessities. Sofa, table, and chairs were at the right side there for waiting, computer station was in the left side, and a mini bar at the back side. Check in process was super quick since they have two counters. I got coupons for welcome drinks but couldn’t be redeemed at the lobby bar. Instead, it has to be redeemed at the Height Bar and Restaurant, located at the highest level at the hotel.
ROOM: BLACK MINIMALIST SUPERIOR ROOM
I got a superior room to stay, located at 4th floor. The room was not that big, standard like usual budget hotel room. The interior was designed in black-minimalist style with black floor and wall plus additional touch of dark brown in the furniture. I rarely found this blacky kinda ambiance in usual hotel. Young inspired? Well, J4 got it.
What I like the most was, that long table beside the window which enable me to sit and work during the day before having fun at night. The room also completed with small refrigerator, water heater, toiletries, safety box, and hairdryer. Others that make it enjoyable was high speed wifi access to the room and lcd tv with 60 channels. Pretty much complete for a superior room.
The main concern for you to stay in the hotel maybe the noise of the nightclub around. Yeah, I feel you. But don’t worry too much about that since it actually won’t bother you that serious. Make sure that you ask for upper level room, at the back side. The noise was better there. I still can hear the music in my room but it wasn’t that make me won’t sleep anyway.
FOODS: HEIGHT BAR AND RESTAURANT
Well, this is the nice part of the hotel. Instead of having a restaurant at the lower level, the hotel built an open door restaurant located at 5th level of the building. They only have one restaurant through out the hotel so Height Bar and Restaurant serves breakfast and all day dining for guests. Not much scenery can be seen from the top because buildings around were in the same height and built in very close, but still the ambiance said the other ways.
Breakfast started at the early morning around 7 and I suggested you to go as early as you can. The later you go, the crowded it more and I personally like a quite ambiance in my breakfast time. I woke up late, went to my breakfast at around 8.30am and it was super crowded, maybe because it was a high season as well.
Breakfast was in standard, dominated with Western menu. Beside, they also have porridge, rice, and some side dishes for Asian tastes. I choose to take their Western style breakfast with sausages, omelettes, potato wedges, tomato pesto, and bacon. My favourite was their pancake and danish raisin bread. Pick them with a sip of hot tea, good choice to start the day.
During the day, Height Restaurant and Bar open for all day dining offering ala-carte lunch and dinner started after breakfast at 11.00am until 10.00pm. I had my lunch at the restaurant and it wasn’t a bad choice. In the afternoon, the restaurant wasn’t that crowded compared to morning. The ambiance was more calming and enjoyable, with a nice music playing at the bar and soft breeze at the time. The ala-carte menu dominantly offered Western cuisine but they also have Asian delight and Indonesian choices.
Simple food sometimes is the best, same as this Prawn Salad. The salad was simply served with greens, diced avocado, prawn, cocktail dressing, and lemon drop. Totally simple but the freshness of its ingredients turned this usual dish into enjoyable one.
Other menu to be pointed out is Fish and Chips, classic I know but the fish was well seasoning not too salty not fishy. It was breaded well, crunchy, served with hearty tar-tar sauce and fresh salad. But the fish was not that big though. Hoping for a bigger one.
Need a sneak peak for their menu? Here they are. This was their new menu, just launched this early September. The Tuna Tataki looks good, maybe I’ll try it in the next visit.
ROOFTOP SWIMMING POOL: SWIMMING AT HEIGHT
One level below the restaurant, there is a swimming pool and sunbathing area. I went here in the afternoon and found that people were so much enjoying the sun at the top. Swim at height and feel the sun shine while sleeping at the lounge chair, what a perfect set for a lazy day. The staffs also available at the entrance of the pool, ready to help if you need some drinks from the bar. Just order and they’ll bring it to you, like I did.
From the top, you could also enjoy the sun set. Well, it was nothing compared with having ones at the beach but if you happen to not go anywhere after swimming at the pool, just enjoy the scenery while drinking your cocktails. It’s not bad either.
LOCATION: EVERYTHING IS AROUND
What you wish for in Kuta? Nightclub? Shopping? Eating? Beach? Well, everything is around! Right beside the hotel is Sky Garden the biggest discotheque in Bali. Just a couple walk from Sky Garden, you’ll find the Bomb Bali Monument. Going straight from the hotel entrance, pass across the street to a small alley, you’ll get to sightseeing, eating, tattooing and shopping at Poppies. Walking through Poppies, there you are at the greatest mall in Bali, Beachwalk. And right in front of the mall, is the main destination for your vacation in Bali, Kuta Beach. What else you wished for? I wished nothing but the best for my feet because there were so much destination around the place that I should visited.
Here are several questions that you probably wanna ask and I gave my best to give the informative answer to you.
Is the hotel appropriate for kids?
The hotel room, breakfast, and services was totally fine for kids. The superior room indeed is a bit small but still in capable to have one kids on the bed. If you want a larger room, consider to book their deluxe or suites one. However, since it was located surrounded by discotheques, maybe you might consider about the noise and crowd if you are going around in the evening with your kids. If you are in the room, it’s totally fine. Parent know the best, right?
Do they have balcony?
Yes they have several room with balcony. Do mention it during reservation.
Do they have spa?
Yes, they have spa facilities at the hotel.
Which room you suggest me to pick to avoid the noise?
Choose the higher level room at the back side. Less noise there.
Can I do early check-in?
I’m afraid not because the hotel is in the high occupancy all the time. But you can wait at their lobby where seat and computer station are available or going to 5th level for their restaurant.
Do they have airport transfer?
Yes they have but with additional charge.
Who will you recommend this hotel for?
I recommend this hotel for young people especially travelers or those who want to spend their holiday for nightclub, shopping, surfing, sunbathing, and strolling around Kuta. I also recommend this hotel for family (with no kids and elderly if possible) and couples who are in limited budget.
If you go back to Kuta, will you stay at this hotel again?
If I decided to spend my holiday around this place in Kuta with a limited budget, I’ll go to stay at this hotel again.
