What’s your definition for ‘burger’?
For me, burger is that two pieces of bun with any kind of delicious things inside — often become a hero in my emergency hunger and even escape plan in my don’t-know-what-to-eat moment. Quite long definition, but that’s how burger has ruled my life.
Going around Legian by walk in a hot day will totally burn your calories a lot. And here it is, small burger shop with an attractive name board titled Five Monkey, been there to save people’s life or at least my life. Well, I am sure that’s not only me.
It’s not even 11am but I was in state of hungry when I visited this burger shop. It was not a big shop though but offer quite affordable burger in the area. Walking inside to the restaurant, you’ll be welcomed with a retro style interior — random pictures in the wall, colorful wooden table and chairs. The burger shop has indoor area completed with LCD TV for guests entertainment and out door area, facing to the hustle bustle of Legian street. Both area were smoking area.
The kitchen production was similar with fast food where they have an open kitchen behind the cashier. However, different with fast food, the patties, all of grilled and fried thingy were made fresh in the place based on the order. This was a nice thing to know because you’ll definitely sure that you’ll get the fresh food, even though it was a patties, grilled onion, or french fries.
As the burger specialist, they have several choices of all the time most popular burger including cheese burger and chicken burger. There also packages menu pairing burger, french fries, and cold beer with range of price IDR 80k – 105k, which was quite cheap in the area. Other than burger, Five Monkey also available with hotdog, philly (Philadelphia kind of sandwich), and nachos. Here are some of highlighted menu at the shop.
Chicken Burger – IDR 40.000
The burger consist of chicken fillet, ice berg lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and Five Monkey special sauce. The chicken fillet was breaded and deep fried into crispy. Not special but nicely choices because It added the crunchy texture to burger. While the special sauce was an homemade sauce, similarly like mayonnaise but in a better and tastier version.
Double Cheese Burger – IDR 65.000
Cheese burger has been the greatest and most popular burger ever all over the world and Five Monkey not only provide it in single patty, but also double! Who don’t love it? Everybody does! No wonder this big burger portion become a hits at the shop.
Top secret that make Five Monkey’s double cheese burger tasted delicious lied on its grilled onion, giving additional aromatic and sweet touch to the bites. Other ingredients in this burger include double patties, double cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and Five Monkey special sauce.
Mini Cheese Burger – IDR 50.000 (5 pieces)
This 5 small bites totally the opposite of Double Cheese Burger. Instead of having a big chuck portion, the burger come in small pieces, making it possible to eat a burger in one bite! This burger was a creative idea for those who don’t like to eat burger in a mess, especially for children. Aside of Cheese Burger, these adorable burger also available in BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger.
BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger – IDR 50.000
This was one of the best seller beside Double Cheese Burger at the shop as well. The BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger consist of beef patty, cheddar cheese, beef bacon, onion ring, and honey BBQ sauce. Those combination totally turned this burger into a killer, made it become my favourite over all at the first bites!
BBQ Bacon Hot Dog – IDR 45.000
The BBQ Bacon Hot Dog was a nice pick if you wished not to eat burger in Five Monkey. The Hot Dog consist of big chunk of beef sausage, bacon, grilled onion, and honey BBQ sauce.
I was having a little burger feast at Five Monkey at the moment before continuing my culinary journey alongside Kuta. This burger shop was quite popular in the area for its fresh burger. Indeed, it was nice. Best choice for a quick meal in the area with reasonable price.
The place also located very strategically in Legian street, one of crowded pedestrian area in Kuta. You can easily reach it when you’re around Legian or Kuta because you’ll definitely happen to pass by this burger shop. For your information, Legian street has a bad traffic almost all of the time so I suggest you to reach it by walk or motorcycle. There is a huge public parking car as well behind the restaurant but it cost IDR 10.000/car.
